Inspiration, Innovation & Investment In The Future
As 2024 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to thank all our customers, distributors, staff and friends for supporting Bisalloy throughout the year. Over the past 12 months we’ve been inspired by the companies that use Bisalloy Steels for the toughest and most extreme applications across industries such as agriculture, mining, construction and defence. Their manufacturing ingenuity, combined with our unmatched technical expertise, continues to deliver impressive new products. It’s also been a year of innovation and investment in the future for Bisalloy. Read on to find out more.
Inspiring Applications
At Bisalloy, we are fortunate to see amazing applications of the steel we produce and witness the impact it has on products, businesses, communities, and lives. That was never more true than in 2024.
One standout application was Seed Terminator in the agriculture industry. Their world-leading Seed Mill technology eradicates over 99% of weed seeds during harvest. At the heart of their machine is our light, durable BISALLOY® Wear 500 steel, which contributes to more sustainable agriculture and significantly reduces dependence on chemical herbicides. As Dr. Nick Berry, Founder and Director of Research & Development at Seed Terminator, says: “Aussie sand needs Aussie steel.”
In the mining industry, Piacentini and Son showcased their ingenuity in manufacturing Low Loaders using BISALLOY® Structural Steel. In March, they custom-built a “Pink Panther” Series II 160T Low Loader for Roy Hill’s Pilbara operations. This initiative not only supported mining operations but also raised $150,000 for breast cancer research, benefiting the St. John of God Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Bisalloy was proud to support this inspiring cause.
A particularly touching moment came in November when three Australian veterans were reunited with their Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle, affectionately nicknamed ‘Debbie’. This vehicle had saved their lives during an IED attack in Afghanistan. For over two decades, Bisalloy has collaborated on the Bushmaster’s design, enhancing its performance in peacekeeping operations. Infantry soldier Matthew Clarke expressed his gratitude, saying, “I owe my life to that vehicle.” This Bushmaster will be featured in ANZAC Hall at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra in 2026.
Another highlight was the 300th dragline bucket manufactured by CR Powered by Epiroc. This milestone was achieved using steel optimised through decades of collaboration with Bisalloy. The celebration included raising over $60,000 for Health Services in Mackay, a local organisation providing holistic healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Here’s to the next 300 buckets!
On the global stage, Bisalloy’s success with Rheinmetall’s Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle continued to shine. In 2024, the German government ordered 100 Boxer CRVs for their army, marking Australia’s largest military export to Germany and delivering a significant boost to Australian manufacturing.
Inspiring Industry Communities
Nothing is more inspiring than engaging with the people and industries we serve. This year, we had the privilege of attending the Queensland Mining Expo (QME) in Mackay, where we connected with miners and manufacturers. Later, we participated in LandForces 2024, the largest defence industry event ever held in Australia, which brought nearly a thousand exhibitors to Melbourne.
In May, Bisalloy proudly turned green and gold to celebrate Australian Made Week, reaffirming our commitment to local manufacturing and innovation. As a producer for Australia and exporter to the world, we take great pride in supporting Australian industries.
Innovation & New Technology
Bisalloy’s dedication to innovation remained strong in 2024. The backend adoption of SAP systems and Enterprise Resource Planning methods increased productivity and throughput at our plant, ensuring more reliable stock levels for customers throughout the year.
One of our most exciting developments was the introduction of wireless Digital Wear Sensor technology. This groundbreaking solution can provide real-time monitoring for the entire mining and mineral processing chain, offering unmatched insights for process optimisation and maintenance planning. Trials in Western Australia, Indonesia, and NSW are already showing promising results, and we are confident that this technology will see broader applications in 2025 and beyond.
Investing In A Smarter Future
Bisalloy’s collaboration with the University of Wollongong (UOW) continues to drive smarter and more sustainable futures. We proudly support UOW’s LIFT (Learn, Ignite, Flourish, Transform) programme, which empowers young women in STEM to bring their ideas to life. This three-way partnership between academia, industry, and community is making a positive impact on #WomenInSTEM.
Additionally, Bisalloy supports Professor Mathew Barnett’s team at the Deakin University Institute for Frontier Metals. Their research is unlocking the potential of metals to develop energy-saving alloys for critical industries. Through these collaborations, Bisalloy is helping to achieve net-zero goals and developing skilled professionals to join this transformative journey.
Our People
Finally, we want to thank and recognise our incredible team at Bisalloy for their dedication and contributions in 2024. Special congratulations go to Dr. Willy Pang, for achieving 30 years of service—an extraordinary milestone that reflects commitment and excellence.
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain inspired by the possibilities for growth, collaboration, and innovation. Thank you for being part of our journey.
