Bisalloy to work with major German steel producer

Bisalloy Steels, Australia’s only manufacturer of high-tensile and abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate, has announced plans to collaborate with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG (a German-based company with more than 150 years of steel-making experience).

The deal will not only ensure Bisalloy’s supply of green feed, but also help deepen the company’s European ties.

“The establishment of this relationship comes during a period of sustained growth for Bisalloy, not only at home in Australia but also abroad. As our exports rise, we are intent on strengthening our presence in larger markets around the world,” said Bisalloy’s Business Development Manager Justin Suwart.

“This collaboration with Salzgitter AG will bolster our position in Europe, while also providing us the opportunity to pursue some key R&D programs, including the development of world-leading quenched and tempered steel grades.”

With a history dating back to 1858 and an annual output of around 7 million tonnes, Salzgitter AG is one of Europe’s largest steel producers. The Plate/Section Steel business unit of the company includes Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech, Peiner Träger GmbH and DEUMU Deutsche Erz- und Metall-Union GmbH.

Bisalloy selected Salzgitter AG from a list of several well-qualified organisations. It made the choice on the grounds that Salzgitter AG displayed the greatest willingness to embrace the partnership, as well as the strongest production and R&D capabilities.

Dr. Sebastian Bross, Managing Director, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH welcomed the collaboration.

“Through its experience in different sectors, Bisalloy has established itself as a world-class manufacturer of high-tensile and abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate. Salzgitter welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with Bisalloy. We look forward to developing a close working relationship with Bisalloy and believe the sharing of expertise between our two companies will be of mutual benefit to both,” he said.
