Bisalloy Steels appoints new GM of Operations

Bisalloy Steels, Australia’s only manufacturer of high-tensile and abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate, has appointed Matthew Enbom as its new General Manager of Operations.

Matthew, who is currently Manager Operational Transformation at Liberty OneSteel, Whyalla, will become part of the Bisalloy leadership team and report directly to Managing Director/CEO, Greg Albert.

As GM of Operations he will lead the functional departments of Production, Maintenance, Logistics, Quality, Safety and Material Sourcing; and manage Bisalloy’s import and export activity with its International JV’s and suppliers.

“In his current role and through the course of his 14 years in the steel industry, Matthew has proven himself to be an accomplished leader, with a talent for continuous improvement and lean implementation,” said Greg.

“His task, in the newly-created role of GM of Operations, will be to call on this experience and expertise to help transform Bisalloy into a world-class operation.”

Bisalloy is currently enjoying a period of sustained growth. For example, in August the company announced that 2018 was its best year in terms of the export of defence grade steel for over a decade (sales of these products increased by 56 per cent compared to the previous year); and similarly, its Chinese business is entering a significant phase of its development.

This has resulted in added complexity, not just in terms of extra volume, but also in terms of product mix and customer needs.

The defence sector, for instance, demands only the highest quality steel products, as well as compliance with legislative requirements. As it has grown, Bisalloy has therefore had to work its way through accreditation of major defence projects with local and foreign governments.

Considering these circumstances, Bisalloy is now looking closely at the operational side of its business. It wants to improve the way functions such as sales, customer service, finance, admin, and HR are performed.

As General Manager of Operations, Matthew will be responsible for this. He will establish, facilitate and co-ordinate the introduction of new systems, standards and technology to the business to improve performance and return on investment; and he will lead continuous improvement and lean principles throughout the whole operation.

“I would like to welcome Matthew Enbom to Bisalloy Steels. I am delighted that somebody of his calibre has chosen to join us and look forward to working closely with him,” said Greg.

“These are exciting times for us as a business. I am certain that Matthew is set to play a crucial role in taking Bisalloy to the next level.”
